Food Review: Bellini [2/12/11]

In a desperate bid to escape the house and kids and breath new life into my blog, Nikki and I decided to use our newly acquired babysitter and have a date night for Valentine's Day. Since Nikki was in the mood for Italian food, we checked out some of the top places in Madison and finally Nikki decided that we would try out Bellini.

Built in 1897, this landmark church still stands out as one of Madison's most beautiful buildings. They serve authentic Italian dishes in a relaxing environment. The restaraunt is located just three blocks from the capitol on E Washington. So while parking might have proven a challenge for us, the setting just couldn't be beat.

Our meal started out with fresh bread and an herb/olive oil dipping sauce. A delicious introduction to what our evening had in store for us. For my entree, I selected Fettuccine al Giovanni - classic alfredo tossed with fettuccine, prosciutto and Italian sausage. The sauce was rich and buttery and perfectly complemented the saltiness of the meats. I had to force myself to stop eating and bring a little home with me. Nikki's dinner was Tortelli Bellini - spinach tortellini stuffed with a three cheese blend, sauteed with mushrooms and broccoli in a marsala cream sauce. A heaping helping of veggies, which is exactly what Nikki likes made this the perfect plate for her.

The grand finale was the freshly made Strawberry Cheesecake topped with Vanilla Cinnamon cream. I don't even like strawberries, but this absolutely was one of the best desserts I've ever tried. The cheesecake was perfect and the shell of white chocolate complemented it nicely. Once you dip it into the cream topping, it's heaven!

This was definitely a great night out and for that I have to thank my wonderful wife, Nikki. She found this gem of an eatery and pushed to get us out there. Since you did so good this time baby, I'll be waiting excitedly for your next selection.
